Sarah Johnson: One of the best places in town. Great drinks and amazing food. Long Beach bars are typically cheap, and this place is no exception. Drinks and entrees are very reasonably priced. The staff is extremely friendly. Most evenings have live music or a dj.
The Office - BBC photo
Sarah Johnson: This show is one of the perfect BBC programmes. Unlike many American shows (and indeed its American copy-homage of the same name), The Office knows when to stop. Two series and a Christmas Special, and it's all over. Everyone gets what they deserve, and the jokes never get tired. It's a bit mean-spirited, but in a hilarious way. If you've only seen the American version, give this great comedy classic a go.
Equilibrium photo
Sarah Johnson: I didn't go in expecting all that much from Equilibrium, but it is surprisingly fun. The knock-off 1984 is a little hokey at times, and gun-ka has to be one of the worst-named-yet-awesome-to-see stunt spectacles ever. However, the acting is great, and if you're a Christian Bale fan, I highly recommend it.
Dune photo
Sarah Johnson: This is one of the books that you absolutely should not die without reading. The level of care put into creating a viable society is utterly amazing. I have spent hours debating points that were only alluded to in this series. Herbert's work in the Dune series shows a level of pride in craft that is rarely seen, and certainly not by Anderson's fumbling prequels and sequels.

Sarah Johnson: This album really made me happy. With the expected tight musicianship came a nice blend of traditional 'hard' Tool music and a more emotional, accepting Keenan. His songs mourning the loss of his mother (A Perfect Circle's "Judith" inspiration) show his sadness and acceptance of the woman she was, in spite of his opinions of her faith. I really liked this album!

The United States Of Atlantis. photo
Sarah Johnson: I'm a huge fan of speculative fiction, but this didn't even try. He basically took the events of the American Revolution in this series and slapped them onto a volcanic continent. Boooring. It was a trial to get through this book, as the characters were uncompelling and uninspired.
