Cafe Fiore photo
Malcolm Lewis: Great coffee shop located at the end of 85th just before you wind your way down to the Golden Gardens Park beach. Excellent coffee, great ambiance. Just a few seats inside, plus a few outside.

Neptune Coffee photo
Malcolm Lewis: Excellent coffee, nice ambiance. Located in Greenwood on Greenwod Ave and 85th. A nice stop on your way to Golden Gardens Park, though Cafe Fiore (http://www.fablistic.com/i/...) is another excellent option if you're headed to the beach.

Serious Pie photo
Malcolm Lewis: Tom Douglas pizza joint in downtown Seattle. I was expecting to be underwhelmed, but the pizza really was awesome. We had the crimini and truffle cheese pizza and had them throw on some sweet fennel sausage. Delicious. And the crust is really interesting too. Not super thin, but thinnish, and light.

So the pizza rocks. But be warned, the seating is communal seating on tables that seat six. So, for example, our family of four shared a table with another couple. So if you don't like that idea this place might not be for you.

Located just around the corner from Dahlia Lounge, another Tom Douglas restaurant. In fact I think Dahlia Lounge is THE restaurant that got him started as the poster child for the Pacific Northwest's local, sustainable, organic food movement. We ate there once and weren't blow away. But that's a different story...

Malcolm Lewis: Our second visit to this Rustic Italian restaurant in Eastlake. Good food, extensive wine selection and lovely ambiance. Our waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list.

For appetizers, we had the Cozze Affumicati (Taylor Shellfish mussels simmered with smoked tomato, harissa, sweet vermouth, leeks, fresh herbs, and garlic) and the Insalata di Fagioli e Asparagi (Asparagus and white beans warmed with Trampetti extra virgin olive oil; served over Prosciutto di Parma with crispy parmesan frico.) Both were excellent.

For entree, I had the Coniglio Brasato (Braised Oregon rabbit legs served in a creamy five lily sauce with soft polenta and grilled asparagus) and Carol had the Salmon special. Mine was good, but I would have liked the rabbit to have been braised a little longer so the meat was really falling off the bone. Carol was only ok with the Salmon.

We paired our meal with this delicious Barbera: http://www.fablistic.com/ma...

Overall, we liked it a lot. 4.5 stars despite Carol's so-so Salmon entree ;)
Kim LaFleur:
Really? 4.5 and the Entree was so-so? Your authored description of the Appetizer is mouth watering though. I need to try to Fagioli e Asparagi!

Mercer Island To Seward Park Run (13.1 Miles) photo
Malcolm Lewis: 13.1 mile out and back. Running over or next to Lake Washington all the way. Start at the parking lot at Top Park on Mercer. First 2 miles across the I-90 bridge, down the steps onto Lakeside, merge onto Lake Washington Blvd, then left into Seward Park. You could probably go all the way round Seward Park and make this a 15-16 mile run. You could also walk or bike some or all of this with you kids. Some nice real estate eye candy to look at along the way.

Black Bottle photo
Malcolm Lewis: Located in Belltown at 1st and Vine, this place describes itself as "a casual tavern committed to great eating and drinking at fair prices." I liked the casual, cozy ambiance but, despite some great reviews on other sites, I was disappointed in the food which was average at best. I'd go back for the bar, but not the food.

Malcolm Lewis: Quintessential college sports bar but great for everyone, not just students. Excellent and eclectic beer selection and fantastic burgers. Located in the University Village shopping mall.

Café Dharwin photo
Malcolm Lewis: Very good coffee but limited seating (maybe 3 tables?) in a tight space. I got there around 1pm and no good pastries left though I've heard they have a good selection earlier in the day. Good for a quick stop but no really a place to linger imo.
