Bates Nut Farm photo
Kim LaFleur: This is a great family farm North of San Diego, CA that does a fabulous October Pumpkin Patch. The pumpkins are amazingly enormous! This is a great event for adults and kids as they have a hayride, straw maze, animals & rides, and lots and lots of photo opportunities. The food is great and runs the entire gamut of Fall favorites (Corn on the Cob, Baked Potatoes, Caramel Apples, Kettle Corn, etc... etc...) There is a fabulous Gift Shop Barn where they sell taffy and other candies and gifts. Weekends are filled with contests of all sorts. During the regular months, Bates Nut Farm operates a farm selling their Nuts and Dried Fruits. Not many 'real' pumpkin farms in Southern California and this one is fun and worth the drive.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory photo
Kim LaFleur: Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is still the best place to get a gourmet Carmel Apple. I like the one in Lake Arrowhead, California that has the carmel apple called: "The Bear". It's drizzled with carmel, milk chocolate, white chocolate, mini-chocolate chips, and nuts. Of course, it's a good thing to cut-up and share. Love it during the Fall and around Halloween as a special treat!

October Monster Movies - Turner Classic Movies photo
Kim LaFleur: I love Turner Classic Movies all year around, but I especially love them in October when they play the classic Lon Chaney & Vincent Price Monster / Horror movies like "Bride of Frankenstein", "Swamp Thing", and "The Mummy". These seem to be fun movies for me and my Middle School / High School kids to watch with popcorn on a weekend night. Not truly nightmare scary--- but eery and spooky enough for some seasonal 'spirit' and family activity while baking pumpkin bread or toasting pumpkin seeds!

Godiva Pumpkin Spice Coffee photo
Kim LaFleur: Godiva is selling one of it's 'seasonal' coffee's in stores now. I purchased some at our local Baron's Market but I'm certain you can find it at most grocery stores. Pre-ground, it has a pumpkin spiced mocha flavor and is really warming on a cool fall morning or late afternoon. Definitely a good option vs. dragging yourself out in the cold weekend mornings for Starbucks. You can make an iced version easily by keeping the cooled coffee and adding half-n-half, ice, and your favorite sweetner!
